The British Heart Foundation Diet

A one-sheet diet to lose 10lb in three days has been passed around in the UK in recent years, often attributed to the British Heart Foundation and sometimes called the Greenlane Diet. This faddy diet is, in fact, nothing to do whatsoever with the BHF who don't endorse diets.

The diet itself is a strangely old fashioned and unpalatable on, similar to crash diets of the 1970s, containing grapefruit, dry toast, cottage cheese, 'snax' biscuits and quite a lot of tuna and beetroot. There seems to be no logical reason behind the choice of foods and ther is no magic reaction likely here to make you slim. The calorie content is very low - about 700 a day - which is why you would lose weight on it, but such a low calorie intake is best avoided unless under medical supervision.

Sample day's eating

Breakfast  5 'snax' biscuits, 1 slice of Cheddar cheese, 1 small apple,

Lunch  1 boiled egg, 1 slice of dry toast

Dinner 1 cup of tuna, 1 cup of beetroot, 1 cup of cauliflower, 1/2 melon, 1/2 cup of diet vanilla ice cream
